Choosing field service software in Mexico, 2026 to 2030

Four dated legal changes and two infrastructure facts that belong in any evaluation of a field platform in Mexico, with the sources to check them.

By The waydot team · · 3 min read

Sales demos for field service platforms look a lot alike. The differences show up later, when the tool meets what's specific to Mexico: labor law, tax law, data law, cell signal and traffic. Almost all of that has a date and a source. This is the list we'd use to evaluate any platform, including ours.

The calendar

Date What changes What to ask of the software
March 21, 2025 The new data protection law (LFPDPPP) takes effect; the authority becomes the Ministry of Anti-Corruption and Good Government. A processing agreement, fine-grained access roles, configurable retention periods.
January 1, 2026 A CFDI invoice that doesn't cover a real transaction is considered false (Tax Code, Article 29-A, fraction IX), with a verification procedure giving five business days to prove otherwise (Article 49 Bis). Per-visit evidence with time, location and verifiable integrity, exportable per ticket.
January 1, 2027 The Ministry of Labor's rules on electronic time records take effect (Federal Labor Law, Article 132, fraction XXXIV); the maximum workweek drops to 46 hours. Time records generated by the worker, visible to them, with corrections that don't erase the original.
Every January 1 until 2030 The workweek drops two hours a year until it reaches 40; the overtime cap rises from 9 to 12. Workweek and overtime rules configurable by year, and cost per ticket using the real cost of the hour.

Each row has its article and source below. If a vendor can't explain how they cover one, ask when they will.

The app, in real conditions

According to the maps operators filed with the regulator for Q1 2025, no 4G network covers even half of Mexico's territory; the widest reaches 42%. A field technician will work without signal, and the app has to hold up.

  • Test it in airplane mode: open a ticket, complete tasks, take photos, sign and close. When it syncs, check what time and location were stored.
  • Install it on the phones your team actually uses.
  • Ask two or three technicians to use it for a week. If they don't adopt it, nothing else matters.

Dispatch and SLA

The TomTom Traffic Index 2025 measured 34 and a half minutes to drive 10 km in Mexico City, and at the worst hour of the year congestion reached 167%. Dispatch that ranks by straight-line distance will send the wrong technician a lot.

  • Does it consider traffic, current certifications and workload, or just distance?
  • Does it automate the clear cases and leave the rest to the dispatcher?
  • Does it warn of SLA risk with enough time to react, and recalculate as traffic changes?

Field safety

IMSS recorded 418,514 workplace accidents in 2024, and half of workplace accidents and occupational diseases happened to people with less than a year in their position. If your operation does electrical work or work at height, ask whether the safety analysis is mandatory before starting the task or a separate form filled in whenever.

Not regulation, but it costs

  • Your data: can you export everything in standard formats whenever you want? What happens to it when the contract ends?
  • Total price: minimum users, how they're counted, implementation costs, additional usage (maps, storage) and renewal terms.
  • Implementation: start with one region or one service type, with indicators defined before you begin. Be wary of "everything in a day" and of six-month projects before you see the first ticket.

Bring the three people who'll use the system most to the evaluation: a dispatcher, a technician and whoever closes payroll.

The same trip can take 20 minutes or 52

Travel time in Mexico City more than doubles depending on the hour. Why waydot recalculates each SLA's risk throughout the day instead of measuring it at month end.
